The optional Inertial Solutions (IS) Air Data
system uses three solid-state sensors and the computational power of
the IS Processor Card to provide Altitude, Airspeed, Vertical Speed,
and Outside Air Temperature. The Air Data is available either
internally on calls to the Applications Program Interface, or the Air
Data may be reported in a serial message to an external computer.
Air Data is a custom option. The absolute
Pressure Sensor for Altitude, the differential pressure sensor for Air
Speed, gain and signal conditioning are located on the Sensor
Interface Card as seen at the lower right of the image below (yellow labels). The
Outside Air temperature sensor connects at one of the 8 connection
points seen on the lower left edge of the Sensor Interface card below.

Ultrasonic Ranging
The SRF04 transmits an ultrasonic "ping" when
triggered by a Processor Card TPU channel and returns a signal when
it receives an echo. A second TPU channel measures the distance by
timing the interval between signals. Its overall range is
approximately 1" to 9'. It can detect a 1" diameter broom handle
6.5' or further away. This device works for most "target avoidance"
applications including most combat competitions.
